We do not need any more pencils sent to class.  We’ll have plenty between the ones already sent and I had a parent donate a large portion of pencils.  Thanks to all of you for your help!  You’ve been great parents this year and I really appreciate all the help and support.  Please remind students that school’s not over yet and we’ve still got tasks to complete.  Classroom behavior hasn’t been so great lately and I hope it will improve.  We’ll be back on our normal schedule next week.  Please look over your weekly reminders and your new six-week reminders.

First Grade Reminders – Week of Dec. 14 – 18, 2009 is a post from: PhD in First Grade

This year for our Christmas classroom gift we will be trying a new idea.  We will be making Christmas goody bags.  We are asking that each child bring 19 “stocking stuffer” type items.  These items can usually be found in multi-packs for relatively little expense.  Some ideas are listed on the back of this page, but NO candy please.  Many of these items can be found at Dollar Tree, Dollar General, Wal-Mart, K-mart and Target.  Students may still bring goody bags to be passed out to each classmate during our Christmas party (Note:  these bags may contain candy since they will not be opened at school).  Students MAY NOT pass out individualized gifts in-class.

Also, we will be celebrating with a Christmas Breakfast Party.  Each student needs to bring $3.00 (cash –exact amount in labeled envelope) by Monday, December 14th).  This will provide each student with a Jack’s sausage biscuit , drink and other various breakfast items (such as:  doughnuts, muffins, brownies, cookies, etc).  Parents and siblings may attend but food will be served for students ONLY.  We have not yet receive the party date/time from the office; but when we get this information, we will send it home.  Students may check out following the party.

Dear Parents,

It is time to order the 2009-2010 Lupton year book.  The price of the year book is $28.00.  Fill out attached envelope and return to your child’s homeroom teacher.  You may pay with cash or check.  If you are paying with a check, please make it payable to “Our School”.  You must also have a correct address and phone number along with driver’s license number on the check.  On the memo line of the check, please include student’s name.  We will not be accepting half (1/2) payment this year.  The deadline for ordering is November 20, 2009.

• If your child uses incorrect capitalization on a spelling test, the world will be marked wrong.
• Reversal of “b” and “d” will be marked wrong.
• Reversal of any letters other than “b” and “d” will be marked minus 1 point.
• Oral word reading (not sight words) will become Oral Reading Fluency Thursday, October 29.2009.  We will send home a scored example before this date.

September 25, 2009 – Dear Parents is a post from: PhD in First Grade

We know that the economy is awful right now and that we are all having to watch how much money we are spending.  We also know that you just had to buy a lot of supplies for your child.  We asked for $25 to cover additional supplies that could not be purchased individually.  We are asking that you send at least $8 of that by Monday!  This will cover your child’s grammar workbook and reading folder, both of which will be used beginning Monday.  We will worry about t-shirts and other supplies later.
